Bow and Arrow and Other

There is now a fully operational bow, complete with model, animations and functionality. Altogether I'm really happy with it. I still need to fix a couple things like the map getting confused which direction you're facing when holding the bow but yeah, for the most part it's done.

There are now also keyboard and mouse controls. This was essential. It would be a pain if you bought a game on PC and didn't even have the option to play without a controller. The mouse controls for third person aiming are dire but first person is fine.

The name has been changed again and hopefully for the last time.

Simulacrum:

  • an image or representation of someone or something.
  • an unsatisfactory imitation or substitute.

The name ties into both what the game is and what the main character is. The game is a simulacrum of the Metal Gear Solid series and the main character is a simulacrum of people.

Plus it's a cool word.

I've been spending a lot of time designing the map as well as trying to figure out crucial story details. The story has been floating around my head for months now but I have yet to get even a rough draft. I think what's stopping me from making anything concrete is that I have left too many of the details up in the air. So things have been too blurry to get a full picture of how things will play out. So I've been trying to find the answers to all the questions I have about what the story could be and what I'm trying to say with it. I have a lot of ideas and a lot of gaps. A lot of possible angles and a lot of time to sort out what I want. I'm starting to think a deadline might help move things along a bit. So, I may as well set one.

By the end of May I will have a first draft for my story.
